Director Vallo Toomla’s Feature Film Pretenders Will Start its Festival Run at the 64th San Sebastian IFF Debut Film Competition Program
PRETENDERS is the first Estonian film to be selected for the official competition of the San Sebastian IFF. The screening in September will be the film’s world premiere. The film will screen in Estonia on October 6th. All films selected for the competition must have their world premieres in San Sebastian.

Swedish-Estonian Short Animation Amalimbo to Screen in Venice
The short animation film AMALIMBO, a cooperation between Sweden and Estonia, was selected for the 73rd Venice IFF Orizzonti short films competition program. The screenwriter and director of AMALIMBO is Swedish-based Argentinian Juan Pablo Libossart and the art director and main animator is Estonian Roland Seer.

Film institute awards quarter of a million to five co-productions
Estonian Film Institute (EFI) awards 227 000 euros as part of its second half-year funding slate to five co-productions, including two feature films and three documentaries, that see Estonian filmmakers as minority co-production partners.

25 Years of the MEDIA Programme
Since its launch in 1991, the EU MEDIA programme has invested over €2.4 billion in European creativity and cultural diversity. It has supported the development of thousands of films in Europe and their international distribution.
The Estonian audiovisual sector has benefitted from the programme since the early 2000s with film projects being developed, festivals, training programmes and co-production markets organised and great European films distributed. Over the years, €4,6 million has been invested in Estonian projects from the MEDIA budget.
