New Film Estonia Fund Announced

In February, the Estonian Film Institute (EFI) will open a new support scheme intended to promote international cooperation – Film Estonia.

Class Reunion is a comedy about old friends who realize that at some point they have to grow up... for the most part at least. The film is filled with scenes that are just as goofy, wacky and sometimes directly vulgar, as they are recognizable and human.

 

Estonian film to take part in Berlin Film Festival co-production market

The Little Comrade (Seltsimees laps), the debut feature from Moonika Siimets , will be the first Estonian film to take part in the Berlin international Film Festival co-production market, which takes place February 14th-16th 2016.

New films Heroes Of The East, by Jaak Kilmi, and The Uncle Who Looked Like Me, by Katrin & Andres Maimik supported by the EFI with grants on January 16th.

The film is set in a town that has a professional symphony orchestra, managed by authoritarian and confident Paul Levald, who has conducted both the orchestra and his family affairs for years. Due to dramatic events, Paul’s son-in-law Egon Rei must unexpectedly assume his duties.

 

Estonian cinema has bumper year in 2015

Takings and audiences mean 2015 becomes a record breaking year for Estonia. Estonian cinema celebrated a record year in 2015 with 3,093,281 spectators for a national Box Office of 15,566,739 EUR. This represents an 18% increase compared to 2014 (Which saw 2.6 million viewers create a cash income of 12.7 million euros).
